A crown rebuilds a tooth that has lost too much structure to hold a filling. A bridge uses the teeth either side of a gap to carry a replacement. Both are made by hand to match your smile.

Crowns
A crown is a cap that covers the whole visible tooth, restoring its strength and shape. You may need one after root canal treatment, when a large old filling has failed, when a tooth has cracked, or when a tooth is badly worn or discoloured. We use metal-free zirconia and Emax porcelain as standard, which are strong enough for back teeth and natural enough for front ones, with no grey line at the gum.
Bridges
A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by fixing a false tooth to crowns on the neighbouring teeth. It is a good option when those neighbours already need crowns, or when an implant is not suitable. Where the adjacent teeth are healthy, we will usually recommend an implant instead so that nothing has to be prepared.

Preparation
The tooth is shaped under anaesthetic, scanned digitally and a temporary crown fitted.

Laboratory
Our ceramist makes your crown or bridge to match the shade and shape of your natural teeth, usually within two weeks.

Fit
The restoration is tried in, adjusted for bite and cemented permanently.

How long does a crown last?
Typically 10–15 years, often longer with good hygiene and regular check-ups.
Will it look like a real tooth?
Yes. Zirconia and Emax are shaded and layered to match the neighbouring teeth, and without a metal core there is no dark line at the gum.
Bridge or implant?
If the teeth next to the gap are healthy, an implant avoids preparing them. If they already need crowns, a bridge can restore all three in one go. We will explain both for your situation.
